For Potash Base:- Organic Potash - 3-3.5 Ounce
- Distilled or Warm Water - 3&½ Cups
- Potash Base Prepared Beforehand - 2.5 Ounces
- Distilled Water - ¾ from the Cup
- Castor Oil - 5 Ounce Alternative Palm Oil - 5 Ounce
- Coconut Oil - 5 Ounce
1.) Directions For Potash:
Step 1: You can buy organic potash online and offline as well. Take a steel pot and pour 3-3.5 ounces of potash in 3&½ cups of distilled or warm water.
Step 2: Make sure to use gloves while mixing the ingredients. Avoid using aluminum utensils as it reacts with potash, iron pot is fine as a steel alternative.
Step 3: Now, heat the pot at a high flame- it needs to boil. Boil for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, lower the flame.
Step 4: You will notice a lumpy structure, avoid the bubbles and let it settle by lifting the pot once in a while.
Step 5: If you get the lumpiness take the pot down otherwise let it boil for a few minutes more. Transfer the potash into a jar.
2.) Directions For Soap:
Step 1: Take a deep pot and pour coconut oil and castor oil 5 ounces each. Low the flame to boil it slowly and stir the oil once in a while. Now add the prepared potash to the bowl and separate it into the distilled water i.e-¾ th cup, let it settle, and dissolve for 7-10 minutes.
NOTE: Make sure to store the left potash in an airtight container to prevent corrosion or absorption of water.
Step 2: Add the dissolved potash into the oil resulting in a lot of smoke thus be careful and try to ventilate the room by opening windows and doors. Before the potash hardens, turn off the stove. Now you need a mold in a rectangular shape, maybe smaller silicon molds to have the desired shape.
Step 3: Wait for 2 days and after that demold and cut the soap using a soft knife into thick bars. Let the soap cure and harden well and prevent it from moisture thus keeping it in a dry and cool place. Your Black African Homemade Soap is ready!
